The Sheboygan Theatre Company announces
that open auditions for the free Independence Day production, "We the
People,” will take place on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
Sponsored
by the City of Sheboygan, “We the People” is an educational, patriotic musical
with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur and book by
Pat Cook. The guest director for the show is Michael Eberhardy while Sandra
Kasten will be the musical director.
“We
the People,” tells the story of a town preparing for their Independence Day
celebrations by putting together a show. The production is a combination of
different comedic and meaningful vignettes about our how constitution affects
our past, present and future.
The
Theatre Company will be looking for any and all ages or experience levels to
participate. Auditions will take place at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre at
Horace Mann Middle School, 2820 Union Avenue, Sheboygan, beginning
at 6:30 p.m.
Youngsters
will be asked to sing something simple but do not need to prepare anything if
they do not want to. All others auditioning should bring sheet music for, and
be prepared to sing an upbeat musical theatre song. Songs should be no more
than sixty to ninety seconds. Auditions may also involve reading from the
script. Though the selection process does imply some competition, it is made as
pleasant as possible. Direction is given along the way and people need not fear
that they will in any way be embarrassed.
"We the People” will be performed on July 3, 2010, with rehearsals beginning Monday, June 7. The majority of rehearsals will be Monday through Friday, 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. over a four-week time period. For further information, contact Michelle Bestul at 459-3779.
