The Sheboygan Theatre Company
has announced open audition dates for the enchanting musical “Brigadoon.”
Auditions will take place Monday, April 12 and callbacks will be Wednesday, April
14.
“Brigadoon,” guest directed by
Joe Feustel, is a romantic tale of two people falling in love but with
obstacles of time, culture and themselves getting in the way. The majority of
the musical takes place in Scotland, in a mystical town that only appears once
every hundred years.
There are many roles to be cast but the
four main roles are; Tommy, an American who stumbles upon Brigadoon, his cad of
a best friend Jeff, Fiona, the one Tommy falls in love with, and Meg, the town
flirt who offers some comic relief. There will be roles for dancers, singers,
and non-singers alike. The Sheboygan Theatre Company web site has a full list
of all characters and descriptions.
Initial auditions for singing, dancing
and main roles will take place at Horace Mann Middle School, 2820 Union Ave., Sheboygan, on Monday
from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. The Theatre Company is asking all those auditioning to
call the Sheboygan Recreation Department at 920/459-3773 to set up an audition
time. The purpose is to save those auditioning time and to help auditions run
smoothly. People who show up without a time slot will
be allowed to audition at any available time slot. The Theatre Company asks
that people come 15 to 20 minutes prior to their audition time. The auditions will be open to those 15 years
old and higher.
Auditioning does imply some competition
but the process is made as pleasant as possible and direction will be given
along the way. Those auditioning will need to prepare a song no longer than 2
minutes in length. The song should showcase their vocal quality and range. An
accompanist will be provided or people may provide his or her own. If singing
with recorded accompaniment the individual auditioning will be expected to
provide their own tape/CD player.
Auditions will also consist of some
movement and dancing with the choreographer, so comfortable clothes and shoes
are recommended. People may also be asked read from the script.
There are a few roles that are
speaking only and do not require singing. Those who do not wish to sing but are
still interested in doing the show can audition April 14 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
For those invited to callback auditions, callback will take place April 14,
7:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Rehearsals will be Monday through
Friday 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. People are asked to bring a list of conflicts you
have starting Friday, April 16 through Saturday, June 5. “Brigadoon,” will run from May
28 to June 5, 2010, with rehearsals beginning Friday, April 16. There will be
two weekend rehearsals May 22 and 23.
