The
Sheboygan Theatre Company announces the cast and crew for “Brigadoon,” the
organization’s final production of the 2009/10 Season, which is sponsored by
The Stefanie H. Weill Charitable Fund and Acuity for the Arts.
A
Broadway musical about a 1700’s Scottish town lost in time, “Brigadoon”
contains book and lyrics by Allen Jay
Lerner music by Frederick Loewe.
The magical town of Brigadoon appears once every 100 years. The show has many
themes, but the largest is being true to yourself and the people you love.
There is a cast of 28 people, 8 of whom
are newcomers to the Sheboygan Theatre Company.
The
main love interests in this romantic fairytale are two of those newcomers. Katie Phillips, a Sheboygan North High
School junior, last seen in North’s production of “Brighton Beach Memoirs”,
plays Fiona MacLaren. Opposite of her will be David Bourgeois, a music teacher with
Manitowoc Public Schools. Bourgeois will play the lead, Tommy Albright, an
American who has lost his way literally and emotionally.
Rolland
Roebuck, co-owner of
Memories Ballroom in Port Washington, will play his wisecracking best friend,
Jeff. Coincidently, Roebuck played Jeff in STC’s original production of
“Brigadoon” in 1983. Another person reprising their
role form the original 1983 cast will be Sandra
Kasten playing the role of Jane Ashton.
Rounding
out the main characters will be newcomer Holly
Pietenpol, of Francis Creek, by playing the
energetic milkmaid and town flirt, Meg Brockie.
The day portrayed in the musical will be
the day of Jean MacLaren’s and Charlie Dalrymple’s wedding. Tegan Hermann, last seen in “Meet Me in St. Louis,” will portray Jean,
while newcomer Matt Rickmeier
will play her fiancé, Charlie. Rickmeier
is a sophomore at Sheboygan North High School and was Marcellus in the
North/South production of “The Music Man”.
Many of the smaller roles are those of
the fathers and leaders of the different clans in Brigadoon. Lee Tempas, last seen in “Meet Me in
St. Louis,” plays Andrew MacLaren, the father of main
characters Fiona and Jean. The Beaton clan will be led by Erik Tanck, who played the King in the “King & I.” Holland White, who played Warren in
“Meet Me in St. Louis,” will portray his son Harry Beaton, the spurned ex-love
of Jean. Neil Beaton, coming off his
performance as Scrooge in the RCS production of “A Christmas Carol,” will be
the patriarch of the Dalrymple clan. Mr. Lundie is the town leader and the storyteller of Brigadoon
and will be played by Jim Wucherer,
last seen in “1776.”
Heidi
Weinaug, Hope White and
Rachel Platz will be dancers in the production. Weinaug was assistant choreographer for “All Shook Up” and
is playing the role of solo dancer, Maggie. Hope White was in “All Shook Up”
and “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Platz is a newcomer to
the company and a freshman at Sheboygan North High School.
Rounding out the supporting cast: Jody Tempas (“Meet Me in St. Louis”), Danielle Rammer (“All Shook Up”), Karen Irish-Lutze (“Fiddler on the
Roof”), Sharon Quinn (“All Shook
Up”), Michelle Bestul (“Twelve Angry
Men”), Kyle Schwanke (“Meet Me in
St. Louis”), Connor Giles (“Meet Me
in St. Louis”), Don Held (“1776”), Jon Cook (“Meet Me in St. Louis”), and
newcomers Cassidy Steinke, Sam Shircel and Christopher Wilson. Eric R.
Johnson, Managing Director of the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra will have a
cameo role as Frank the bartender.
Staged and directed by
Guest Director, Joe Feustel,
“Brigadoon” features musical direction by Janice
Westphal and Veronica Hilke’s
choreography. The Theatre Company’s resident Production Manager/Designer, Dustin L. Uhl, has created the set with the help of Technical Supervisor, Eric Rautmann, while Rick Klein is designing the lights. Jan Wilkinson and Beverly
Dulmes are heading up the costumes for the production, which will include
many kilts. Sound designers are Lee
Schneider and Dave Steinmeyer. Steinmeyer is also the master
carpenter. Make-up designer for the show is Lynn Schultz. Karen Held is handling the properties for the production and
Doug Kleinhans
is master electrician, while Colleen Bertram is the paint master.
The show’s stage manager is Stephanie M.
Gibson, with Deb Stache
as her assistant.

Johnson Theatre, 2820 Union Avenue, Sheboygan. "Brigadoon" will open Friday, May 28, 2010 at 7:30
