The Sheboygan Theatre Company announces the cast and crew for “The King and I,” the annual holiday production for the Seventy-Fifth Anniversary Season, which is sponsored by The Stefanie H. Weill Charitable Fund and Acuity for the Arts.  For three-quarters of a century the organization has been presenting live entertainment to the Sheboygan area while providing opportunities for local people to participate in the theatrical arts.  A lavish musical based on the story of Anna and the King of Siam continues that trend.

With music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, “The King and I” is one of the most lavish musicals ever produced on Broadway.  Based on “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon, it dramatizes the clash of two diverse cultures.  When Anna Leonowens travels to the Orient to tutor the many children of the king she has no idea into what she is getting.  That their relationship should blossom into an intense relationship based on mutual respect is surprising based on their initial contact.

In the coveted title roles are Erik Tanck as the King and Lisa Golda as Anna.  Tanck was last seen in the lead role of James in “Children of a Lesser God,” while Golda made her debut earlier this season as Rose Alvarez in “Bye, Bye Birdie.”  Two star-crossed lovers, Tuptim and Lun Tha, are played respectively by Catrina Tarr, who also debuted in “Birdie,” and Jake Monroe, who did the same in last season’s “Clue: The Musical.”  Sharon Quinn makes her first appearance with the Theatre Company as Lady Thiang, the King’s head wife, while Clark R. Kirst, who has been seen in numerous productions, is the Kralahome, the King’s Prime Minister.  Holland White and Connor Giles, who have worked together in six Theatre Company productions, play Anna’s son, Louis, and the heir to the throne, Prince Chululongkorn, respectively.

The King’s wives are played by Leslea Brandt, Rachel Eggert, Erika Herrmann, Megan Mrdjenovich, Elizabeth Plotka, Samantha Lin Pool, Tamara Richelle Pool, Danielle Rammer, Kim Singer, M. Lisa Tanck, Heidi Weinaug and Lily Zimmermann.

Alexandria Chapman, Jon Cook, Michael Covey, Sirena Eberhardy, Lex Eggert, Anastasia Fontaine, Jardin Fontaine, Victor Geiser, Gretchen Geiser, Gabriella Kisvari, Kaelyn Kittel, and Nathan Kittel are just one-half of the King’s children.  The others are Angela Landgraf, Anna Menzer, Elizabeth Menzer, Clayton Michener, Brenna Montgomery, Molly Montgomery, Hannah Staats, Stephanie Strean, Steven Thaves, Heidi Sunshine White,

Hope White and Cassie Ziegelbauer.  Neil Beaton, Bill Coldren, Bob Deyo, Chris Fontaine and Bob Staats play various parts throughout the show.

Directed by Ralph Maffongelli, “The King and I” features set and light designs by Dustin L. Uhl, the staff Technical Director/Designer.  Janice Westphal is the musical director, while Veronica Hilke has provided choreographic assistance.  Costume designs are by Beverly Dulmes and Joyce Nery and make-up designs by Kathy Perronne assisted by Bobbi Schad.  Dave Steinmeyer is master electrician, while Lee J. Schneider and Joe Selinski are the sound designers, Karen Held the property master and Colleen Bertram and Kathy Schaffer the paint masters.  Assisted by Jennifer Schleinz, Shari Roehl is stage manager for the production.

Sponsored by Vollrath Company, “The King and I” will open Friday, December 5, and be performed each day through Saturday, December 13, with the exception of Monday.  There are evening performances every night except Sunday, December 7, with matinees that day and on Saturday, December 13, in addition to the evening performance.  The production will be presented at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, 2820 Union Avenue, Sheboygan, with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2:00 p.m.

Admission is $20.00 for adults, $16.00 for seniors sixty and over and $10.00 for youngsters through high school and college students.  Tickets are available at the Theatre Company office in the Community Recreation Department, 607 S.
