The Sheboygan Theatre Company will continue the Seventy-Fifth Season, which is funded in part by the Stefanie H. Weill Charitable Fund and Acuity for the Arts, with the opening on Friday, March 27, of “Over the River and Through the Woods.”

Wrtten by Joe DiPietro, “Over the River and Through the Woods” is a very funny and brand new comedy that pits an older generation against a younger one.  Two sets of Italian grandparents live a few doors away from each other in Hoboken, New Jersey.  While their children have moved to Florida and a granddaughter to San Diego, her brother still lives and works on the East Coast.  Though they can be irksome and annoying, Nick loves them dearly and is so devoted that he has Sunday dinner with the four of them every week.  All is well until he must announce that a pending job promotion will take him to Washington state.  Lamenting his departure, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do everything in their power to keep him from leaving.

Although the scene when the five of them play Trivial Pursuit will cause howls in the audience and is surely worth the price of a ticket, the show is not without its poignancy.  As is always the case with real comedies, which are not meant only to be funny, DiPietro has, in the manner of Neil Simon, woven a beautiful tale that has a lot to say about love and family.

"Over the River and Through the Woods " will open Friday, March 27, and be performed each evening through Saturday, April 4, with the exceptions of Sunday and Monday.  There is also a matinee on Sunday, March 29.  The production will be presented at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre, 2820 Union Avenue, Sheboygan, with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and the matinee at 2:00 p.m.

Admission is $20.00 for adults, $16.00 for seniors sixty and over and $10.00 for youngsters through high school and college students.  Tickets are available at the Theatre Company office in the Community Recreation Department, 607 S. Water Street, or at the theatre box office 45 minutes before curtain of each performance.  Season Tickets guaranteeing admission for all five shows are still available at $50.00 for adults and $25.00 for students.
